ROLEPLAYING GAME FOR SARA’S 40th

FAQs

  • Do I need to know how to play a roleplaying game?

No. Basically you’ll all sit around a table with wine & charcuterie and listen to music while a Game Master (Andy Robinson, a close friend of Sara’s since college) guides you through an imaginary adventure featuring many situations. For each “round” of gameplay he asks each person what you want your character to do in the situation and you tell him. Then you roll some dice (we’ll bring these) and he does some math to figure out what happens, based on character sheets he’s making for your characters. Also did I mention the wine & charcuterie?

  • What should I know about Sailor Moon?

Here’s the gist of it. The premise is: teenage girls discover they are reincarnations of space princesses with super powers. (These are known as Sailor Guardians and they’re all named after planets.) The characters transform into space princess mode by shouting out catchphrases like “Moon Power Makeup!!!.” They each have their own power set (example: fire, ice, etc) with special attacks that have crazy-ass cool names like “Dead Scream” or “Silence Glaive.”

  • Do I need to do any other research for this?

No! You don’t have to. There will be no quizzes or tests of Sailor Moon knowledge during the game, and I’ve picked characters from the show that are close enough to your own personalities that you can simply play as yourself. That said, for those of you who do want to dive further into your associated characters, I’ve put clickable links on the names below.
It can be a rabbit hole though.

  • Which Sailor Moon character will I be playing?

Blair - Sailor Mars (has Fire powers)

Christy - Sailor Uranus (has Sword powers)

Debbie - Sailor Pluto (has Time powers)

Erin - Sailor Mercury (has Ice powers)

Jaiden - Hotaru / Sailor Saturn (has Death Powers)

Jessie - Sailor Neptune (has Ocean Powers)

Andy is making character sheets (that list each character’s powers in greater detail) for easy reference. He’ll supply those on the day.

  • Should I dress up?

If you can come wearing your character’s colors, that would be great!
Don’t feel like it needs to be elaborate though, because it's the thought that counts. Or simply come as you are if that’s more comfortable! Conversely, go further if you want. This is a private residence and we're the only ones who will be there so it's a safe space!

  • How much does Sara know about this so far?

She has already guessed (correctly) that I’m planning a Sailor Moon roleplaying game but I haven’t confirmed. She loves the idea. Doesn’t know exactly where it will be, who will be there, or how.

  • Where are we meeting?
A private residence belonging to some very kind friends of Sara’s. I don’t have the exact address at hand but will be sharing that when I get it.

  • What does “12 - 5 (estimated)” mean? How long will this go?
Andy & I have planned for the game to run 3 hours, but who knows? If everyone’s having fun it might go longer. If everybody isn’t it might go shorter! So 12pm - 5pm is a window, my feeling is that the game itself might be over sooner.

  • What can I do to help? / bring? / bake?

Does anyone want to make a pie? Sara prefers pies to cake so I thought we could put candles on one of those to sing happy birthday. But if I bake it here she’ll know it’s coming! Her favorite flavor of pie is pumpkin but I know she would be happy with anything.

Also, if anyone wants to bring fun party decorations or stuff of that nature, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings.

Thank you all for being a part of this! If anyone has any questions, thoughts, suggestions, improvements, etc, please don’t hesitate to contact me through text or email.
